The Family Preservation program through the Probation Department is intended to reinforce and bring families together of juveniles who have been involved with the Juvenile Justice System. Particularly those with significant mental health issues or complex needs related to factors like gang involvement, the nature of their charges, family dynamics, and other relevant circumstances. The program serves juveniles on probation with challenging needs by providing intensive case management, engaging families, and working closely with the community.
This program primarily focuses on identifying the needs of both the juvenile and their family, delivering holistic support and intervention within the home. Employing a strength-based, family-centered, and highly individualized case management ensures ongoing assistance with clothing, food, and transportation via vouchers while also finding constructive and prosocial activities for the youth. Officers of this unit have smaller caseloads, which allows them to focus their efforts on working with the families and the youth by providing necessary referrals to community-based resources, vocational and job training, and assistance with educational needs. These officers frequently visit the youth at school and at home to help ensure they receive the assistance needed while also ensuring community safety.
The goal of this unit is to assist juveniles with high needs so that they can thrive and be proud members of their communities throughout Tulare County. To donate to At-Risk Youth (Probation Department), visit At-Risk Youth (Probation Department).
